our impact
Empowering hope, one child at a time
Providing love and education
Our declared aim is not only to give the children a roof over their heads, but also to provide them with all the tools they need to live a fulfilled and self-determined life and become the leaders of tomorrow. This is accomplished through a foundation of love, a commitment to education, and the empowering influence of sports.
A heart project
Maryann and Janet have dedicated decades to supporting children in need in Nairobi. Their commitment and experience laid the foundation for what would eventually become the Mama Baraka Children’s Home. Along the way, they partnered with Frank, a like-minded entrepreneur from Berlin, and together they transformed their vision into a reality. Today, the home stands as a testament to their enduring efforts and shared belief in creating a better future for these children.
Our Approach
Look at it holistically
We view our work as a meaningful journey, cherishing the opportunity to guide and support these children as they grow into adulthood.
We are in control
Mama Baraka owns the property and is solely responsible for its maintenance. This ensures independence from landlords and authorities, giving us complete freedom in our decisions.
We protect and empower
We view the education of the boys in our care as a comprehensive responsibility. We don’t just provide them with a safe home; we also share our knowledge and skills, helping them to recognize their own strengths.
We live sustainable
Our commitment to independence extends to every aspect of our lives. We grow and prepare our own food, generate our own electricity, and continuously work on expanding Mama Baraka Children’s Home. Everyone here is an integral part of the community, with shared rights and responsibilities.
Our Activities
Beeing a community also means sports and fun
A healthy mind resides in a healthy body, and we are also convinced that strength, willpower, and assertiveness can be optimally trained through sporting activities. We have our own gym on site, which the boys use every day. In addition to training in the gym, dancing is also popular. This promotes a sense of community and coordination.
